SoDel Concepts Gets New Senior Advisor

Alan Levin joins the team of the award-winning hospitality group.

What do you do after you decide to step down as economic development director for the state? If you’re Alan Levin, and you plan to live in Rehoboth Beach, you join the team of SoDel Concepts, an award-winning hospitality group, as senior advisor. Levin will step down from his role as economic development director for the state of Delaware at the end of the year’s legislative session, scheduled for June 3o. “We are thrilled to have someone of Alan’s experience and caliber as an advisor,” says Scott Kammerer, president and CEO of SoDel Concepts, which owns eight restaurants, Plate Catering, Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen, a food truck, hospitality management and consulting divisions, and SoDel Films. “We are building a successful regional hospitality company, creating more jobs and providing our employees with the opportunity to grow with the company. Alan has the skills to help us achieve those goals.”

Levin, who has led the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO) since Gov. Jack Markell took office in 2009, is the former head of Happy Harry’s, the American drugstore chain founded by his father, Harry Levin. The chain was purchased by Walgreens. SoDel Concepts was named to the 2009 Inc. 500, which lists America’s fastest-growing private companies. “Since then we’ve grown 300 percent and have 500 employees,” Kammerer says. “Alan will help us take SoDel Concepts to the next level.” Levin was good friends with Matt Haley, the founder of SoDel Concepts, who passed away in August 2014. “Though I am looking forward to spending more time at the Delaware beaches, I am even more excited to be involved with SoDel Concepts,” Levin says. “Business is what I do best, and the opportunity to work with Scott Kammerer and his dynamic team of professionals is a wonderful chance for me to continue my service to the people of Delaware, while helping to perpetuate the work of my friend and mentor Matt Haley. It’s going to be great.”
