Drip Café to Open Second Location in Newark
The eatery is expanding after five successful years in Hockessin.
Anyone who's met Greg Vogeley, owner of Drip Café and The Brunch Box food truck, knows he is never short on energy. Maybe it’s his close proximity to caffeine, or his passion for his business, or both.
Whatever his secret, Vogeley's success in Hockessin over the past five years has prompted Drip Café’s expansion to a second location in Newark, close to the University of Delaware's Carpenter Sports Building.
Vogeley aims to open the restaurant by mid-summer, right before UD students return to campus. Located at 60 N. College Ave. in a mixed residential building below 100 apartments, the café will also share the space with a nail salon and a pizza chain.
Vogeley says the Newark cafe will have less seating than the Hockessin location, with a stronger focus on takeout and "grab-and-go" items. “There will be self-ordering kiosks and all the Drip Café favorites available in a to-go format,” he says. But, he promises, there will still be pancakes.
Although the new location will not be directly on Main Street, Vogeley is not worried about business. “We’re right near the Trabant University Center and the Carpenter Sports Building,” he says. “If you’re standing at Trabant, you could go to us, Newark Deli and Bagels or Brew HaHa!—so I think we’ll fit in well.”
And as Vogeley gears up for the Newark opening, he’s also preparing to celebrate Drip Café’s five-year anniversary in Hockessin, where he hopes to have evening hours and a liquor license by summertime. An anniversary celebration on April 22 from 5:30–8:30 p.m. will include, food, music and door prizes. The event is free but may include a cash bar. Check Drip Café's Facebook page for updates.
