When eight top local chefs get together to cook for a cause, you know it must be a special one. Case in point: the Chefs Unite to Save Mickey and Cure Sanfiippo II Dinner, which will be held on Monday, March 12, at Deerfield Golf Club.

The event supports the Team Sanfilippo Foundation’s efforts to find a cure for all children afflicted with Sanfiippo syndrome, a rare and fatal genetic disorder often referred to as “childhood Alzheimer’s.” Delawarean Mickey Merrill (right) was diagnosed with the disease last summer.

In addition to a special meal from some of the area’s best chefs, guests will also be treated to the first public screening of “The Weight of a Mountain,” a short documentary about Sanfilippo syndrome. There will also be a silent auction featuring memorabilia, trips and more.
