Hop to it and get your beer recipes in order. Entries are being accepted for the Third Annual Delaware Homebrew Championship, to be judged during the Delaware Wine and Beer Festival on Oct. 17 at the Delaware Agricultural Museum & Village in Dover. “Home brew has a strong local vibe, in the roots of the community,” said Charles Gray, homebrew competition coordinator for Kent County Tourism, producer of the event. “Dover Home Brew Supply, a one-year-old company and a second year sponsor is a business that supports the industry entrepreneurs and home brewer.”

The event is an American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned competition, meaning the champion brewer will be chosen by Beer Judge Certified Program judges. The team of certified judges will select the Delaware Homebrew Champion (first place) and second place winners. The prizes rock. The first place winner will receive a full-day brewternship at Fordham & Dominion Brewery, a two-night lodging package at MainStay Suites; a T-shirt and growler plus happy hour ($50 gift Card) from Mispillion River Brewing, $250 cash and much more. The Second place winner will receive a two-night lodging package at MainStay Suites, plus cash and prizes valued at $500.

“We had an outstanding selection of entries last year,” says Gray, Director of Sales at Kent County Tourism who is coordinating the competition. “For 2015 we’ve increased the number of entries to 60, and each brewer can now enter up to five different brew entries, so we anticipate different styles from the same brewer.” Featuring almost all of Delaware’s breweries, wineries, distilleries meaderies and cideries, the sixth annual Delaware Wine and Beer Festival is the original, official and only national award winning festival of its type in Delaware. Delaware restaurants will serve seafood, barbecue and gourmet sandwiches. There will be artists and artisans, a keg tossing competition, live music and more. Visit delawarewineandbeerfestival.com.
