The Bobbie Earns Capriotti’s International Fame

Washington Post hosts World Cup of Sandwiches. Guess who won?

The World Cup is over, Germany has nabbed its fourth title and the fever has died. But our hunger hasn’t. In case you missed The Washington Post’s World Cup of Sandwiches, the U.S.A., represented by The Bobbie, homegrown at the original Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop in Wilmington, took the contest. Better known as Thanksgiving on a roll, The Bobbie is endorsed by no less than Vice President Joe Biden. It defeated a slate of tough opponents—the Choripán of Argentina in the quarterfinals, the Spring lamb gyro of Greece in the semis and the formidable döner kebab of Germany in the finals—on its way to world domination. According to The Post, “Next up for the Bobbie: A string of endorsement deals, a flurry of tabloid headlines and the never-too-early-to-ask question of whether a 2018 repeat is probable, or merely possible.” Read all about it here.
