CROP Foundation Speakeasy Opens for One Night

Gentlemen, grab your fedoras. Ladies, slip on your flapper dresses. Everyone get ready for a roaring good time on March 6. The CROP Foundation Speakeasy is open for one night and one night only. Guest chef Robert Lhulier and the William Penn High School Culinary team will satisfy your palate with their savory creations and will whet your whistles with beer, wine and specialty cocktails. But to get in—and to learn the secret location—you have to be in the know. We can tell you how to do that, but first, you need to know that the CROP Foundation is devoted to passionate young students who study cooking, agriculture, or any other field that is related to culinary or hospitality programs. Established in 2014, CROP's aim is to build a sustainable community of young students who are confident in their career paths and will be lifelong learners of quality and excellence in the world of gastronomy. CROP offers educational scholarships, internships, and opportunities to work with local and global chefs, farmers, restaurateurs and other members of the culinary industry.
A Delaware native and Wilmington resident, Chef Robert Lhulier’s background has always been deeply rooted in food and fine wine. A distinguished graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, he spent an externship in Biarritz, France, then become the opening sous chef for the ground-breaking Deep Blue Bar and Grill. Several years at the stoves earned the restaurant numerous accolades, upper-strata Zagat ratings, a week’s visit to Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago and the honor of cooking at the hallowed James Beard Foundation. After awhile at his own, critically acclaimed Chef’s Table at the David Finney Inn in New Castle, Lhulier put time in at acclaimed restaurants such as Domaine Hudson, Harry’s Savoy Grill and Union City Grille. Robert has also worked as Private Tasting Chef at Talula’s Table in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. He is now executive chef at the University and Whist Club of Wilmington.
