The Dining Insider: It's Not Too Late for Romance at The Green Room or Dover Downs, plus Chocolate Beer at Iron Hill, and Oysters at Deep Blue and Harry's Seafood

It's Never Too Late for Love Let's say, for the sake of argument, you flubbed it. You'd forgotten to make reservations at that special restaurant for Valentine's Day. (Sadly, these things do happen.) Well, we can think of few places as romantic as The Green Room of the Hotel du Pont and, lucky for you, it's still offering a special prix fixe menu for tonight. Choose from among a list of classics and faves such as lobster bisque, Hudson Valley foie gras, oysters on the half shell, truffled risotto, truffle-glazed scallops, marinated ribeye, Verlasso salmon, chocolate torte, baked Alaska—we could go on. Various four-course options are offered at $45 to $85. So now you know. Pick up the phone. Don't blow it. 594-3154, hoteldupont.com/dining/green-room...

The Dining Insider: Welcome Ernest & Scott Taproom, Going French at The Stone Balloon, Spanish Wines at Orillas Tapas and Valentines Treats

It’s Beer Heaven—Literally We’re very glad to see the opening of Ernest & Scott Taproom at Ninth and Market in Wilmington. Owner Scott Morrison set out to create a warm and welcoming place, and he has succeeded wildly. The heart of the venture is cask-conditioned beers and ales, meaning you’ll find a diverse list of microbrews that are fermenting in the bottle or keg. Those microbrews come from far and wide, and some are so rare or limited in quantity, you won’t find them anywhere else in the area. The dedication to craft extends to a list of small-batch spirits and wines from small producers, so there’s fun to be had by all. And the menu offers everything from hearty sandwiches to refined entrées. As for the name, Ernest refers to...

The Dining Insider: A Comfortable New Image for Cromwell's, star chef Dana Herbert's baking classes, and more beef than you can stand

Cromwell’s Redefines Comfort We’re jazzed about some changes at the classic Cromwell’s Tavern in Greenville, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary and has since embarked on decade No. 3 with some tweaks to the menu. Chef Michael Mullen, a chef instructor at Delcastle Technical High School, has created two dozen new dishes that you’ll find familiar and new at the same time. “The homey, laid-back feel of Cromwell’s is part of what has kept us going for 20 years, and comfort food goes along with that vibe. But it’s 2012, and we don’t want to be serving the same comfort food that was in fashion 20 years ago, but we don’t want to scare our regulars away, either,” says owner Pat Nilon. “Chef Michael genuinely...

The Dining Insider: Sunday Dinner at Toscana, Bento boxes at Potstickers, chef's tasting at Premier Wines and a special dinner at Nage

Premier Events There’s cool stuff coming at Premier Wine & Spirits beginning February, when it launches The Chef Tasting Series. On the first Wednesday of each month, Premier will host a favorite local chef in its intimate tasting bar. The chef will prepare a signature dish to be paired with wines and beers from Premier’s inventory. It all begins Feb. 1, when chef Paul Egnor of Pizza by Elizabeths drops in to cook, chat, and show you a little about food. Best of all, most of the proceeds go to the chef’s charity of choice. Keep checking the Premiere Web site for a full roster of chefs. It’s coming soon. premierwinespirits.com Celebrating Wine It’s no secret that your Insider is a huge fan of Nage in Rehoboth Beach, so...
