Bask in the summer sun and burger aroma at the 6th annual Delaware Burger Battle on Aug. 26. The best of Delaware’s burger aficionados from 17 local restaurants will congregate at noon at the Cauffiel House in Wilmington to compete for the People’s Choice Burger, Best Alternative Burger and Critics' Choice awards.

The admission fee includes three voting tickets. Voters will taste each and every burger to provide an impartial vote. Trophies will be awarded at 2:30 p.m, so cast your votes early. There will be adult beverages and soft drinks included, along with music and activities for the whole family.

Confirmed restaurants include: Brew HaHa!, Brick Works Brewings and Eats, Chelsea Tavern, The Culinary School at Food Bank of Delaware, Delaware Park, Drip Café, Ernest & Scott Taproom, Grub Burger Bar, Home Grown Café, McGlynns Pub & Restaurant, Maiale Deli & Salumeria, The Meat House Chadds Ford, Metro Pub & Grill, The Plum Pit, Redfire Grill + Steakhouse, Tonic Bar and Grille and Ulysses Gastropub.

You can chomp down guilt-free knowing your contribution will help the Delaware Burger Battle support those with food insecurities as well as students with a dream of culinary excellence. All proceeds go to the Ministry of Caring’s Emmanuel Dining Hall and Delaware ProStart.

The Ministry of Caring’s Emmanuel Dining Hall in Wilmington helps provide meals for those in need through 180,000 prepared meals annually. All meals are free, no questions asked.

Delaware ProStart of the Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation works to establish a future in the culinary arts for high school students. The program is implemented in 18 schools and includes more than 3,000 students in the state. ProStart helps students develop the skills required in the restaurant business, including management and culinary techniques, and the ability to establish real-life connections.

The battle will be held on the grounds of the beautiful Cauffiel House in Bellevue State Park. The property sits on a hill overlooking the Delaware River with plenty of shade and space to spread out.

“It’s truly the most gorgeous venue," says event founder JulieAnne Cross. "It sets the event apart from many others.”

In its first five years, the Delaware Burger Battle served more than 16,000 burgers to more than 3,000 people, generating more than $37,000 for Delaware nonprofits. Cross expects around 800 visitors at this year’s event.
