Urban Acres and Bright Spot Farms Expand

Look for these pop-up fresh produce stands in underserved parts of Wilmington.

Can’t get to the farmers market or produce stand? Let it come to you—or somewhere close. Among other operators in Wilmington, Urban Acres and Bright Spot Farms open in various locations each day of the week—and sometimes several spots in a day. Urban Acres was set up by Central Baptist Church about four years ago to get fresh produce to people in underserved parts of town. Bright Spot also started about four years ago to give former foster youth job training by growing and selling its own produce. Both organizations have since expanded. Both could use your support. Look for Urban Acres at the Wilmington Housing Authority headquarters, Parkview Apartments, Calvary Presbyterian Church and Central Baptist Church. Look for Bright Spot at places like Jimmy Jenkins Senior Center, Wilmington Senior Center and farmers markets in the city. For more, check brightspotfarms.org.
