The Dining Insider: A Dining, Food and Restaurant Blog about Evening in the Garden for The Food Bank, Basque Wine and Cuisine at Tinto, Happy Hour at Harry’s Seafood Grill in Wilmington and Dinner Music at Béseme in Lewes

Eat for a Cause

Mark Aug. 11 on your calendar now. Evening in the Garden will feature tastings of wares from local wineries and breweries with foods made from the produce of the UD’s Garden for the Community on South College Avenue, all to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware.

Paradocx Winery, Victory Brewing Company and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery join the UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the effort. The Food Bank’s culinary team will serve shrimp and cucumber soup, a flame-broiled vegetable terrine, watermelon-feta salad, sweet corn and Chesapeake crab salad, Indian eggplant parmesan rolls, chimichurri chicken with fried okra, fresh triple berry trifle and more. Royal Palm Steel Band will bring the tunes.

The Garden for the Community is a partnership between the Food Bank of Delaware and UD faculty and students. The garden produced more than six tons over the past two years. The UD is hoping for an even bigger yield this year. The goal is simple: feed more hungry Delawareans.

The event is 6 p.m.-8p.m. Tickets are $40 per person, $15 for students. Please bring a bag of non-perishable goods for the Food Bank. RSVP by Aug. 4 at -8074 or kkostes@fbd.org. Remember those who don’t at as well as we, and bon apetit.

Being Red

OK, this may seem off the rails, being in Philly and all, but it’s a new one on us: Basque cuisine.

Beginning Aug. 16, Tinto restaurant (114 S. 20th St., 215-665-9150, tintorestaurant.com), will host Tinto Tuesdays, with special prices on Basque snacks and drinks from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

“In pintxo bars throughout the Basque region, the scene is very lively with food and drink flowing. We want to recreate that Basque experience by offering a truly affordable happy hour menu so our guests can sample a variety of dishes and enjoy great cocktails,” says acclaimed chef Jose Garces.

Pintxo is the same as tapas to you and me. The chef will also be fixing the sandwiches known as montaditos. Dishes include baby artichokes with lemon and Idiazabal cheese, pickled tomatoeswith sheep’s cheese, octopus, with smoked paprika and potato confit, and sardines with piquillo and egg. We could go one. Suffice it to say the trend of Basque hasn’t hit here yet, so Tinto is, so far, the best bet for adventurous diners.

So party like you’re in the Pyrenees. Tinto (“red wine” in Español) offers 50 Spanish vinos. Try as many as you can during Tinto Tuesdays, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. We hope to see you there.

Speaking of Happy Hours…

You’ll want to hit Harry’s Seafood Grill on Aug. 3 and Aug. 5 for First Wednesday and First Friday happy hours. Wednesday goes 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with drink specials, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and half-price tapas. Friday lasts 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., also with drink specials and hors d’oeuvres, plus entertainment by Lee G. Harry’s patio offers an unrivaled view of the Christina River, so there are few places better to unwind with friends. Cheers.

Dinner Music, Beach Music

Where do you go for the best dinner music at the beach? Béseme in Lewes. The rotation of regulars at self-described “eclectic bistro” includes former Bad Company player Paul Cullen, Shore Jazz, Keith Mack of Scandal fame, Kent Schoch and others. Catch them starting at 7 p.m. most weekend nights (6 p.m. o Sundays). The cool tunes blend perfectly with the comfortable décor, which blends perfectly, of course, with the unique fare. This is a little place you don’t want to miss. If you’re feeling generous, ask about the Starrlight Find to help women with ovarian cancer.
