This Elsmere Cafe Serves Up Coffee and Charm Aplenty

Owned by the law firm next door, Legal Grounds Café is a welcome breakfast-slash-lunch spot.

Ever on a search for the latest and greatest local spot for a caffeine fix, I recently stumbled upon Legal Grounds Café in Elsmere. I arrived close to 3 p.m.—closing time—but the staff greeted me warmly. The cafe has a Parisian feel to it: bistro-style tables and chairs, pendant lights and decorative ceiling tiles. I ordered my usual—a small vanilla latte—and the barista rang me up for $2.50. I was in a bit of a late-afternoon slump at the time, so it wasn’t until I was later perusing a copy of the menu I’d grabbed that I noticed the remarkably low prices. Legal Grounds does not charge for any additional syrups or sauces (fellow flavored coffee lovers, rejoice!). Not only are the coffee and espresso prices reasonable—a large latte, cappuccino, Americano mocha, cafe au lait, chai latte and macchiato are all under $5—but the breakfast and lunch items are also affordable. Snag a breakfast sandwich on your choice of bread for $5, or a grilled cheese for $7 (no extra charge for ham!).

There are also salads, muffins, croissants and even a quiche of the day. The coffee is La Colombe, which is headquartered in Philadelphia.

The law firm next door—Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz & Bhaya, a practice with over 20 lawyers—owns the cafe, which opened in June of last year.
