8 Egg-citing Easter Activities Along the Coast
Beach-bound this weekend? Here are some ways to celebrate in style.
1. Buy some hot cross buns
Traditionally eaten on Good Friday in Britain, these sweet buns are marked with a cross on top. You can find them at Old World Bread in Lewes, along with Easter bread and challah. Place your order 48 hours before pickup. The bakery is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
2. Hunt for Easter eggs
Start at the Great Kite Festival and Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, March 30. Registration starts at 10 and the hunt starts at 11. (You must pay the park fee.)
The hunt at Lewes Canalfront Park starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31.
Or, head south to the Dewey Beach Egg Scoop on the Dagsworthy Street beach, also at 11 a.m. on March 31. There will be carnival games and photo ops with the Big Bunny.
3. Update your wardrobe
Remember when Easter meant new shoes, a new dress and a new hat? You can find the latest spring fashions at the locally owned Jane & Georgie on Rehoboth Ave.
4. Join a sunrise service
The service at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, sponsored by the Lewes-Rehoboth Beach Association of Churches, starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 1.
In Lewes, the service will start at 6:30 p.m. on Lewes Beach.
5. Get hop’d up
Head to the “Easter, I Hardly Knew Her” 2SP tap takeover beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Mach 31, at Big Chill Surf Cantina.
6. Make your own Easter basket
But hurry up. When we last checked, customers at Edie Bees Confection Shop in Lewes were on a buying spree. Don’t despair if the chocolate bunnies and foil-wrapped eggs are all gone—there are plenty of non-Easter treats in the Parisian-style boutique.
7. Take the family to brunch
Victoria’s Restaurant, tucked in the Boardwalk Hotel with an ocean view, is featuring an Easter buffet with omelet and waffle stations, carving stations and a plethora of starter, salad, entrees and sides. Don’t forget the dessert table. Seatings run from 9:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
For a one-stop experience, schedule brunch at The Clubhouse at Baywood in Millsboro, available from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday. Choose from the buffet ($12-$35) or pick an a la carte item. An Easter egg hunt will start at noon on the pavers outside the clubhouse. Photos with the Easter Bunny also will begin at noon.
8. Get Easter dinner to go
Along with serving Easter brunch, Big Fish Grill in Rehoboth is offering fully prepared Easter meals in its adjoining market. Order by Friday, March 30, for pickup on Easter.
